Two distribution companies are licensed by the Bureau to operate in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi:
- Abu Dhabi Distribution Company (ADDC), serving around 281,966 electricity customer accounts and 223,850 water customer accounts
- Al Ain Distribution Company (AADC), serving around 123,318 electricity customer accounts and 70,739 water customer accounts (as at 2011)
Both companies are required under condition 9 of their licence to keep separate financial accounts for their distribution and supply activities. The distribution businesses cover the ownership, operation, maintenance and construction of networks assets. The supply businesses cover meter reading, billing, customer accounts and call centre activities
