The Federal Environmental Law No. 24 for the Protection and Development of the Environment was issued in 1999 to protect the natural balance of the environment, control all forms of pollution, and promote sustainable development
In line with the government’s mission of protecting the environment, the Bureau is working in partnership with the Environment Agency of Abu Dhabi (EAD) to develop and implement a comprehensive environmental regulatory framework to monitor, maintain and improve the water and electricity sector’s environmental performance. To achieve this objective, the Bureau concentrated on the following:
- Promoting environmental awareness, compliance and accountability among the sector companies
- Reviewing systems and processes to minimize the environmental risks associated with the sector’s activities
- Gathering information to build knowledge and tools to improve decision making processes
- Integrating sustainability considerations into the environmental regulations and guidelines implemented on the water & electricity sector companies
